Features and Benefits

  • 4 point lap strap Attaches to give a pull at waist height and a pull at 90 degrees to this over the thighs.
The resultant 45 degree pull helps to ensure pelvic postural stability and prevent the child slipping either forwards into sacral sitting or sideways when pelvic obliquity will result. Pelvic position is the base of any sitting position and good stability in the pelvis leads to more stable sitting.
Adjustable back column (angle) Adjustment of the back angle leads to a change of hip position for the child. When the back is upright, so is the child. When the back is reclined, the child's hip angle is opened up from 90 degrees allowing them to rest and meaning that they are able to sit without expending so much energy. This is a real benefit when the child is tired or when they have just eaten.
  • Bringing the back support forward will close up the angle of the child's hips which can lead to reduced tone for children with very high tone. This means that they are much less likely to extend out of their given posture and they are more able to develop their own sitting and head control skills rather than always being at the mercy of their own reflex, high tone movements.
  • Adjustment of the upper back pad (height, depth, angle) The height, depth and angle adjustments of the upper back pad allow you to contour the back support to suit each child's individual needs. Very subtle differences in the position of the upper back support will offer quite different sensations and support to the child and can therefore be used to really fine tune their position giving them maximum support, minimum support, encouraging them to sit up straighter or offering a profiled back support (in conjunction with the lumbar pad) tailored exactly to their needs.
Jenx has designed and incorporated this high level of adjustability to offer professionals and children the widest possible range of options so that every child is supported in as ideal a way as they can be. The excellent range of adjustment means that this can be refined and refined every time the child's levels of ability improve or decline. Versatility is the key to ability.
  • Adjustment of the Lumbar Support Pad (height, depth, angle) As with the Upper Back pad, the range of adjustment means that you can tailor the support to each individual child and contour or profile the entire back support with very subtle detail to truly support your child. This is not a matter of support where the child touches but support touching the child exactly where they need it. Changes are made in moments so the support given can be crafted throughout the day or a session to always give optimal support.
  • Lockable castors allowing Zeta to be wheeled safely Castors allow Zeta to be wheeled safely within an indoor environment on a smooth floor. Zeta should not be used outdoors or on uneven ground.
Castors mean that no-one has to strain to push or pull Zeta to the desired location. The castors all swivel freely and lock fully giving excellent manoeuvrability and safety.
  • Hydraulic frame/seat height adjustment Z-Base Zeta has a range of height adjustment which offers benefits to you and your child. Children can be fully positioned at the appropriate level for each activity. Children who use Zeta will not require the wide range of height adjustment necessary for very young children but the height adjustment is still important to achieve full sitting comfort for every activity. Height of sitting is a really important factor for a number of reasons:
Children need to be comfortable and in a suitable position to access activities.Height adjustment means that adults can adjust the seat height to make their interaction with the child more comfortable.Different heights will give the child differing perspectives on their environment
Hydraulic assisted height adjustment Simple height adjustment for seat. This has a shorter range of adjustment than is available on the y-base. The height adjustment allows your child to access activities at different heights. The hydraulic system is easy to operate and does not require carers to do any lifting. It is activated by a simple push pedal.
  • The tilt-in-space feature allows you to adjust the position of the child in space whilst retaining their posture exactly as it was. It is possible to adjust the child's orientation in space whilst retaining the position of all their limbs. Some supportive seats require you to alter each individual element which can lead to fiddly-ness and an adjustment that takes too long for people to bother with it. The adjustment is made simply and quickly using a gas spring found below the seat and is so simple that it makes it likely that adjustments are made whenever needed.
  • The seat depth is adjustable to accommodate a child’s upper leg length It is essential that children are properly supported with each element of their support fitting them properly. The simple adjustment on Zeta works in a similar way to a car seat adjustment. The lever releases the seat which can then be pushed or pulled to the correct length and locked off. The adjustment is infinite so can be just the right length for the child.
Seat length should be around two fingers width behind the back of a child's knee to prevent pressure from the seat.
  • Positional adjustment of the hip pads Hip pads are used to augment the postural stability offered by the pelvic strap and also to enhance the support given to a child in sitting. The adjustment of the pads to accommodate different widths of children means that you can achieve close or distant support as needed. As with all Jenx adjustments, the range of adjustment offered covers the range of sizes that are normally observed in a cross section of the population at that age. This should ensure that you can give appropriate support to every child.
The angle of the hip supports allows you to continue to give sure hip support to a child even if they are sitting with an element of abduction in their posture. This ensures that their legs are suitably supported and when used in conjunction with the abduction block or hip pad extensions, the whole of the leg, internally and externally can be fully supported.
  • Extension pads to elongate the hip supports The longer support along the outer leg can be used to keep thighs in a supported position and can help to reduce external rotation which reduces the efficacy of having the hips abducted. These adjustable pads give children support along the length of the femur adding to the support options.
  • A range of headrest options is available for Zeta Each child will have different needs in respect of head support. The range available for Zeta covers such a wide range of options that you are sure to be able to find just the correct support for every child.
Oval headrest: this is a simple headrest available on a multi-adjustable carrier which offers you adjustment in three planes. This means that you can achieve the correct height, angle and distance forward or backwards from the carrier.
  • Multi-gripTM headrest comes on the same multi-adjustable carrier and offers very individual support for a wide range of children. Within the comfortable cover are "fingers" that can be moved and moulded to create an infinite variety of support shapes that can control ATNR, help with feeding, address the problems of unilateral inattention and many other problems faced by the children who use Zeta.
  • One piece supportive, adjustable footplate Height adjustable so that feet are supported at just the right height for each child. The angle of the footplate is adjusted using a simple, easily accessible knob at the front of the footplate. This offers very individual positioning and allows the prescriber to offer lots of different levels of support and different resting angles for different children depending on the requirements of their tone, any contractures present and their weight-bearing ability or requirement. If your child can self transfer or if you wish to hoist and need the footplate out of the way, simply push it up towards the lower leg support and it will stay out of the way, held by a magnet integrated within the support.
  • Two piece supportive, adjustable footplate Each foot can be positioned individually. This is especially useful if your child has a leg length discrepancy. Each foot can be angled individually to create the perfect postural support for your child.
  • Adjustable, supportive moulded plastic sandals The attractive, moulded plastic sandals come in different sizes to fit different sizes of child. The sandals have webbing straps that can be fixed as separate toe and instep straps or as an "X" strap to help to keep the child's foot in contact with the footplate. This helps to increase weight-bearing and also to reduce tone in high tone children. The back strap is adjustable which allows you to adjust it to "grab" the heel of the child and therefore keep their foot in contact with the footplate. The rear straps have three different positions for you to attach them allowing for children who have AFOs or similar or who wear gaiters or callipers.
The sandals attach using one bolt which makes for quick and simple adjustment and they can be positioned in almost any place on the surface of the footplate. Small rubber buffers incorporated in the sandals preserve the surface of the footplate and also make a very sure grip which keeps the sandal in place. This is very important for a stable sitting position. Toning plastic up-stands hold the rear straps at a suitable height to "grab" the heel of shoes or boots.
  • A range of thoracic support options - short, with integral chest strap and flip-away (chest strap, height, width) Thoracic support helps to maintain symmetry in sitting for children with both high and low tone. The support can be close to the child, nearby, just-in-case or can surround the child. Zeta offers lots of thoracic support options so you can offer exactly the correct level of support to each child.
Short thoracic supports: offer simple support and will usually be used in conjunction with a waistcoat harness if the child needs full support. These supports are slim so as not to put pressure on the inside of the child's arms. The height and distance apart adjustments allow you to offer support at just the right height for each child. You should always leave at least one finger width between the support and the child's armpit.
Short thoracic supports can be fixed angle or flip-away incorporating the facility to angle them to fit closely to the child.
Thoracic supports with integral chest strap: these supports are height adjustable and the integral strap gives an all-round support to the child. These are a comfortable option ensuring complete support. The supports wrap around the child once done up giving a complete band of support. The supports can be adjusted for distance from one another to accommodate children of different sizes.
Thoracic supports with integral chest strap can be fixed angle or flip-away incorporating an angle adjustment to allow close fitting to the child.
Width: the distance apart of any of the thoracic supports can be adjusted to suit the child and their level of ability.
  • Tray arms (adustable by height and angle) The tray arms are used to support the tray so the child can take part in activities on the tray.
The height adjustment allows you to set the tray at the height most suitable for each child. This is a simple adjustment that is made in moments so the child may use the tray at different heights for different activities throughout the day.
The holes in the surface of the tray arms let you position the tray as close to the child as you wish.
The angle adjustment on the tray arms is used to offer the child an inclined or flat tray which may offer them different functional levels for a variety of activities. Painting can be done with the tray set up more like an easel for instance.
  • Large tray surface to support many different activities Using a tray allows a child to work comfortably even if no suitable table is available. The tray can support various prompts such as grab bars or activity frames. The tray can be adjusted for height, proximity to the child and angle all by means of the tray arms (see above). The contrast edging gives the child a clear working area and food and other bits can be brushed away underneath the edging. The full surface clear cover for the tray can be used to place stickers or icons underneath where they can be seen but do not need to be fixed permanently to the tray.
  • Abduction block (small moulded and additional) The use of an abduction block helps to maintain neutral or abducted hip position in sitting which helps to increase stability of the sitting position whilst maintaining better forces acting through the hip joint. Abduction blocks help to maintain good sitting posture and also keep legs apart helping to prevent "scissoring" of legs which creates instability and can be detrimental to development of the hip joints.
  • Washable and comfortable covers These comfortable covers offer added comfort and the possibility to customise the look of Zeta to suit each child. A range of colours is available. Zeta is upholstered in a comfortable vinyl fabric that is water-resistant. The surface can be used without covers but the covers enhance comfort and aesthetics.
  • Push handle to facilitate ease of manoeuvring The push handle offers a comfortable pushing action. The soft grip handle sleeves are easy to hold and grip making pushing a breeze. The folding push handle can be folded out of the way when not in use. This prevents people catching themselves on the back of the handle as they pass by Zeta.
Key point: even with the push handle, Zeta should never be used out of doors.
  • Comfortable waistcoat which is used with the fixed, short thoracic pads. Available in sizes 1-3 This is a comfortable waistcoat that offers complete support to a child whose thoracic control may be limited or who may tire when sitting for long periods of time. The four fixing points give a firm attachment and the waistcoat can be washed when it becomes soiled. Fixings are available on Zeta so waistcoats can be fitted at a later date.
Key Point: The pelvic strap must always be used even if a waistcoat harness is fitted
  • Moulded PU blocks that fit onto the tray These blocks help to prevent children from pulling their arms backwards into a non-functional position. The pads fully rotate and can be fitted at any time using the holes already in the tray to take the fixing kits provided. The blocks can be moved forwards and backwards as well as rotated giving a wide range of positions to suit every child's needs.
  • Firm protractors that fit onto the back of Zeta Keeping a child's shoulders forward will generally lift their level of hand function by keeping their hands forward where they can use the tray. Children who extend strongly can often be denied the use of their hands as their extension pulls their hands backwards to where they are unable to see or use them. The protractors can adjust for height, angle and laterally to accommodate children of differing widths. Shoulder protractors are flip-away.
  • An interface plate to allow the fitting of stealth Headrests to Zeta
