Junior

Junior is moulded in PU, which offers excellent support, easy cleaning and no issues with liquid becoming absorbed into the foam. It can be wiped down using antibacterial wipes or spray.

Junior offers conventional, reclined and Tilt-in-Space settings and has lots of adjustment to accommodate children of different sizes and proportions. It has a fabulous range of cover colour options so children can customise the look of their Junior to their own taste. Covers can be washed, and a basic PU cover is included for use while your child’s colourful favourite is being laundered.

The Y-base offers a great range of seat height options and the hydraulic system reduces the amount of work involved in making height alterations, therefore protecting carers whilst supporting children.

Junior: Features & Benefits

Pelvic Strap (4 point as standard): 4 point lap strap. Attachers to give a pull at waist height and a pull at 90 degrees to this over the thighs.

The resultant 45 degree pull helps to ensure pelvic postural stability and prevent the child slipping either forwards into sacral sitting or sideways when pelvic obliquity will result. Pelvic position is the base of any sitting position and good stability in the pelvis leads to more stable sitting.

Back Column (angle): Angle of back column

Adjustment of the back angle leads to a change of hip position for the child. When the back is upright, so is the child. When the back is reclined, the child's hip angle is opened up from 90 degrees allowing them to rest and meaning that they are able to sit without expending so much energy. This is a real benefit when the child is tired or when they have just eaten.

Bringing the back support forward will close up the angle of the child's hips which can lead to reduced tone for children with very high tone. This means that they are much less likely to extend out of their given posture and they are more able to develop their own sitting and head control skills rather than always being at the mercy of their own reflex, high tone movements.

Upper Back Pad (height, depth, angle): Adjustment of the upper back pad.

The height, depth and angle adjustments of the upper back pad allow you to contour the back support to suit each child's individual needs. Very subtle differences in the position of the upper back support will offer quite different sensations and support to the child and can therefore be used to really fine tune their position giving them maximum support, minimum support, encouraging them to sit up straighter or offering a profiled back support (in conjunction with the lumbar pad) tailored exactly to their needs. Jenx has designed and incorporated this high level of adjustability to offer professionals and children the widest possible range of options so that every child is supported in as ideal a way as they can be. The excellent range of adjustment means that this can be refined and refined every time the child's levels of ability improve or decline. Versatility is the key to ability.

Lumbar Support Pad (height, depth, angle): Adjustment of the Lumber Support Pad

As with the Upper Back pad, the range of adjustment means that you can tailor the support to each individual child and contour or profile the entire back support with very subtle detail to truly support your child. This is not a matter of support where the child touches but support touching the child exactly where they need it. Changes are made in moments so the support given can be crafted throughout the day or a session to always give optimal support.

Castors (lockable): Castors allow Junior to be wheeled safely within an indoor environment on a smooth floor. Junior should not be used outdoors or on uneven ground.

Castors mean that no-one has to strain to push or pull Junior to the desired location. The castors all swivel freely and lock fully giving excellent manoeuvrability and safety.

Height Adjustment Y-base (pedal height lock)

Hydraulic frame/ seat height adjustment and pedal locking feature.

Y-base Junior has a huge range of height adjustment which offers a wide range of benefits. Children can be fully positioned at very low level with their peers, up to a breakfast bar or similar to eat with the family or anywhere in between. At the time of its launch, Junior offered the greatest height range adjustment on the market. Height of sitting is a really important factor for a number of reasons:

Children need to be comfortable and in a suitable position to access activities.

Height adjustment means that adults can adjust the seat height to make their interaction with the child more comfortable

Different heights will give the child differing perspectives on their environment

Different heights will allow the child to access different working heights for a variety of activities including musical instrument playing, washing up, sand play, school work, art, time with siblings watching TV or playing on games or computers.

The Pedal Locking feature is an important Safety Feature where Junior is used in an environment where other children could activate the pedal

Locking the height adjustment mechanism means that the child using the chair is not suddenly lifted or lowered by accident and also that the possibility of another child getting underneath the chair whilst it descends is removed. Key point: Always lock height mechanism in busy location.

Tilt-in-Space: The Tilt-in-Space feature allows you to adjust the position of the child in space whilst retaining their posture exactly as it was.

It is possible to adjust the child's orientation in space whilst retaining the position of all their limbs. Some supportive seats require you to alter each individual element which can lead to fiddly-ness and an adjustment that takes too long for people to bother with it. The adjustment is make simply and quickly using a gas spring found below the seat and is so simple that it makes it likely that adjustments are made whenever needed.

Seat Depth: The seat depth is adjustable to accommodate a child's upper leg length.

It is essential that children are properly supported with each element of their support fitting them properly. The simple adjustment on Junior requires the seat to be loosened and pulled or pushed to provide a longer or shorter seat length. The adjustment is infinite so can be just the right length for the child.

Key Point: Seat length should be around two fingers width behind the back of a child's knee to prevent pressure from the seat.

Seat adaptation to accommodate different leg lengths.

This feature allows you to fully support a child who has a leg length discrepancy. This means that every child, whichever leg is longer can be fully supported.

Seat pad: The unique seat pad feature of Junior that allows exceptional pelvic positioning along with a wide range of variation in composition and action.

The unique seat pad feature of Junior is an area of the seat support that can be tailored to offer exactly the right base surface for each child. Pelvic position is the basis of sitting posture and is hugely important in achieving improvement in posture and function. The memory foam pad allows the child's Ischial Tuberosities to be held firmly and comfortably contributing to a stable pelvic posture. This has been found to offer benefits of stability and tone reduction to even very high tone children.

Tray Arms (height, angle): Height and angle adjustable tray arms.

The tray arms are used to support the tray so the child can take part in activities on the tray. The height adjustment allows you to set the tray at the height most suitable for each child. This is a simple adjustment that is made in moments so the child may use the tray at different heights for different activities throughout the day. The holes in the surface of the tray arms let you position the tray as close to the child as you wish. The angle adjustment on the tray arms is used to offer the child an inclined or flat tray which may offer them different functional levels for a variety of activities. Painting can be done with the tray set up more like an easel for instance.

One piece footplate (height, angle, flip-up): One piece supportive, adjustable footplate.

Height adjustable so that feet are supported at just the right height for each child. The angle of the footplate is adjusted using a simple, easily accessible knob at the front of the footplate. This offers very individual positioning and allows the prescriber to offer lots of different levels of support and different resting angles for different children depending on the requirements of their tone, any contractures present and their weight-bearing ability or requirement. If your child can self transfer or if you wish to hoist and need the footplate out of the way, simply push it up towards the lower leg support and it will stay out of the way, held by a magnet integrated within the support.

Adjustable, supportive sandals.

The attractive, moulded plastic sandals come in different sizes to fit different sizes of child. The sandals have webbing straps that can be fixed as separate toe and instep straps or as an "X" strap to help to keep the child's foot in contact with the footplate. This helps to increase weight-bearing and also to reduce tone in high tone children. The back strap is adjustable which allows you to adjust it to "grab" the heel of the child and therefore keep their foot in contact with the footplate. The rear straps have three different positions for you to attach them allowing for children who have AFOs or similar or who wear gaiters or callipers. The sandals attach using one bolt which makes for quick and simple adjustment and they can be positioned in almost any place on the surface of the footplate. Small rubber buffers incorporated in the sandals preserve the surface of the footplate and also make a very sure grip which keeps the sandal in place. This is very important for a stable sitting position. Toning plastic up-stands hold the rear straps at a suitable height to "grab" the heel of shoes or boots.

Comfortable and washable covers

These comfortable covers offer added comfort and the possibility to customise the look of Junior to suit each child. A range of colours is available. Junior is constructed from moulded PU providing a surface that is smooth and which prevents ingress of fluids. The surface can be used without covers but the covers enhance comfort and aesthetics.

Easy-clean pads for excellent infection control

All support pads are made from PU, which is extremely easy to wipe clean. Essentially a soft plastic, PU allows excellent support without any seams or fabric - helping to keep the risk of infection down.
