Prone Stander

Prone Stander is dedicated to assisted prone standing - child supported at the front, and offers a continuous range of angles so the optimum position for each child  can be achieved.

Prone Stander has good looks and sound functions to make standing enjoyable and practical for your child, and simple for you to achieve.

The individual support pads can be adjusted in relation to each other to ensure every child can be properly supported. Children with longer bodies and shorter legs can be just as comfortable as those with shorter bodies and longer legs.

Prone Stander is great for every child. The sturdy hip and chest straps are closed in the centre and then adjusted by pulling from either side. This feature, common to many Jenx Products, encourages symmetry. Once the straps are secured, the integral safety strap is fastened to complement the postural support. This helps to prevent other children suddenly releasing a strap. It is important always to use the safety strap and to fasten it as far as possible to maximise its usefulness.

Prone Stander: Features & Benefits

Height: Height adjustability to accommodate a wide range of children

The length of Prone Stander is continuously adjustable, not incrementally, which offers every child just the right length to support them as they stand. If a standing support is too long for a child it will restrict arm movement and could even give pressure too high on the chest and make breathing difficult. If a standing support is too short for a child it will be uncomfortable, may encourage the child either to flop forward where their function will be reduced or may cause them to extend away from their discomfort. Prone Stander offers comfortable, appropriate length support to all users within the size range.

Sizes: Prone Stander comes in 2 sizes

Each size is designed to support a range of children so you can choose the size that offers the best growth range for your child. The overlap between the 2 sizes is 180mm which allows you to choose which size will suit your child for longer.

Angle: The angle of Prone Stander can be angled from 0° to 40°

Research has shown that the benefi ts of standing in general have been investigated by a number of teams over the years. An overview of some of these studies is given: Bush, S.et al. Guidance on Assisted Standing for Children with Cerebral Palsy. Journal of the Association of Paediatric Charted Physiotherapist Vol. 2 No. April 2010, Pages 3 - 10.

Upper Pad: Adjustable support pad. The upper pad supports the chest

The upper pad is adjusted whilst setting the length of Prone Stander. The upper pad itself has a range of adjustment to allow you to really fine tune the support your child receives. The support pad is cushioned for comfort and also has a small extra range of adjustment which can be used to ensure that a child doesn't suffer pressure over a feeding button. The chest strap is attached to the upper pad.

Lower Pad: Adjustable support pad

The lower pad can be adjusted in relation to the upper pad and to the length of the board. This fine tuning allows you to give support in the best position for the child to achieve their best standing position. The hip strap is attached to the lower pad. The lower pad can be adjusted for its distance from the upper pad. This adjustment is used to create the desired postural support and also to ensure there is no pressure over a feeding button.

Chest Pad: The two adjustable thoracic pads attach to the upper pad and carry the adjustable chest support and safety strap

These highly adjustable, PU moulded supports can be adjusted to offer different widths, heights and angles of support. These supports help to support a child in a symmetrical posture and, used in conjunction with the hip pads, can ‘brace' a child who is developing or has developed scoliosis.

Chest Strap: Chest strap with integral safety strap

The chest strap is a broad comfortable strap that holds a child in contact with the support surface. The strap closes in the middle using touch and close tape and is then adjusted by pulling on each side strap evenly until the most secure length is reached. The side straps then close over the chest pads again using touch and close tape and the ends of the straps are clipped together and adjusted tightly for length to create the safety strap. This unique symmetrical pull means that the support information is symmetrical and will help to keep the user in a more mid-line orientated posture.

Hip pad: Highly adjustable hip supports attached to the lower pad

These supports are adjustable for height, distance from each other and angle. They carry the postural support and safety strap. Hip position is very important in standing in order to ensure that the forces acting on a child's developing hip joints is beneficial and also to create a stable standing position to reduce the likelihood of the child standing with a scoliosis. If a child already has a postural or fixed scoliosis, the hip pads can be used in conjunction with the chest to help control and support.

Hip strap: Hip strap with integral safety strap

The hip strap is a broad comfortable strap that holds a child's hips in contact with the support surface and prevents them flexing at the hip. The strap closes in the middle using touch and close tape and is then adjusted by pulling on each side strap evenly until the most secure length is reached. The side straps then close over the hip pads again using touch and close tape and the ends of the straps are clipped together and adjusted tightly for length to create the safety strap. This unique symmetrical pull means that the support information is symmetrical and will help to keep them in a more mid-line orientated posture.

If a child has a pelvic obliquity the same mechanism of pulling from the side can be used to decrease their unwanted rotation and maintain that de-rotated position.

Sandals: Adjustable sandals

Sandals are used to ensure that the child's feet remain in the optimum position for their standing benefit. The sandals are highly adjustable and are moved by loosening one attachment to allow movement in two planes.

Sandal straps

The sandal straps can be used as either an ankle strap and separate toe strap or together to form an ‘X' over the child's feet in order to keep their feet firmly on the sandal. The near sandal strap can be opened to make it easy to place the child's foot in the sandal without having to ‘feed' the foot over the back strap. The near strap can then be closed and used to ‘grab' the heel of the child's shoe to help to maintain heel contact.

Sandal raising blocks: Slim, black sandal plate

These are used singly or together to form a platform to raise the sandal for a child who has one leg shorter than the other. Sandal raising blocks come in sets of 3, each is 15mm thick giving a maximum raise from one set of blocks to 45mm.

Sandal multi-positional upstands: The upstands that carry the rear sandal straps have 3 possible positions on the sandal

The different positions allow the sandals to accommodate differing shoe widths, most AFO's or similar and callipers. This versatility increases the range of children who can use Prone Stander to most children. The sandals can also be used with Bodypoint Ankle Huggers if the upstands and other sandal straps are removed. NB: keep these in a safe place to use with a future child!

Tray: Tray angle

Working surface angle can be used to increase function. Some children find different angles helpful. The angle can be adjusted to be quite steep providing an easel type surface for art work. The angle adjustment also means that the tray can always be level or at optimum angle regardless of the angle of Prone Stander.

A bowl to fit into the tray

The bowl can be used to hold toys, for messy play or for ease of hand and face washing.

Tray infill

The infill fits over the entire tray to give a smooth continuous surface once the bowl has been removed.

Board angle: The angle of the board can be adjusted

The continuous angle adjustment allows a standing angle of anywhere from 45° to the horizontal up to upright standing. This smooth adjustment is continuous so very subtle refinements to angle are possible. This adjustment can be made once a child is already securely supported in the Prone Stander.
